What is Clinical Engineering?

Clinical engineering is a branch within biomedical engineering that is responsible for the management of medical equipment and technology in a hospital. The tasks of clinical engineers may include: training and supervising biomedical engineering technicians (BMETs); working with government and hospital regulations, inspections and audits; serving as the technological consultant for hospital staff. In addition, a typical clinical engineering department is responsible for the corrective and preventive maintenance on the medical devices used by the hospital, except for those covered by a warranty or maintenance agreement with an external company. Clinical engineers typically work closely with IT departments and medical physicists.
