Electrophoresis lead repair
How easy is it to repair a broken electrophoresis wire? The wire came apart at the male end joint. It looks like all I need to do is put the wire back together.
Is this worth fixing? I'd have to buy a sodering gun and wire...or am I just better off buying new leads?

The repair can be easy, but
The repair can be easy, but frustrating. The wire needs to be soldered back onto the connector. You normally have to take the connector and the wire out of the box to accomplish this. You will need to get some silicone to reinstall the wire. To do all of this you may want to replace the banana plug at the same time. I have repaired many of these boxes and there is a list of issues that can happen. The wire is made of platinum and is expensive.
1. Old wire breaks easily
2. Finding the correct size banana plug
3. Banana plug strips out or the unit if it is this type of plug
4. Resealing the connector, if the banana plug is that type.
It can be easy with no issues or frustrating depending on the condition and style of the box. I use a voltmeter (ohms) to check them out, when I am done.
Good luck :-)
